Guitar Concerto "Coiled Horizon" : Sinfonietta Rīga & JIJI : GORS

Although during Beethoven's lifetime critics were baffled by this opus, since the beginning of the 20th century the Grand Fugue has been considered one of the peaks of his achievement. Eternal values are also at the heart of Pēteris Vasks' music, as always reaching out and offering solace. However the main intrigue of this programme is the new concerto for electric guitar and orchestra by New York based Krists Auznieks. In 2017, he received the Grand Music Award of Latvia for "Fire and Rose", and his Piano Quintet has been highlighted by The New York Times weekly music review. The solo in the premiere will be performed by Korean American guitarist Jiji, who has already performed the Latvian composer's music at the Lincoln Center in New York.

Under the baton of Maestro Robert Spano, the ASO has consistently featured new music from contemporary composers alongside more standard classical repertoire. In this special presentation, we celebrate perhaps the fullest incarnation of this, the "Atlanta School of Composers," with a program of works commissioned by the ASO from some of the brightest composers to emerge in recent years. Included on the program are works by Brian Nabors, current ASO bassist Michael Kurth, Michael Gandolfi, Emmy Award-winning and Grammy® nominated Adam Schoenberg and Krists Auznieks.

This concert is made possible through the Robert Spano Fund for New Music, established by The Antinori Foundation in honor of Robert Spano.

Opera "Tagadne (Time Present)" (Copy)

Music: Krists Auznieks

Directors: Krista & Reinis Dzudzilo

Sinfonietta Rīga, conductor Normunds Šnē

Voice: Jānis Šipkēvics

Tickets: https://www.bilesuparadize.lv/lv/performance/21693

Vizuālās mākslas, teātra un mūzikas sintēze ekskluzīvās divās izrādēs laikmetīgajā kameroperā “Tagadne (Time Present)” kultūrtelpā “Hanzas Perons”.

Tikai 14. un 15. augustā divas ekskluzīvas izrādes piedzīvos jaundarbs – laikmetīga kameropera “Tagadne (Time Present)”, ko radījuši vizuālie mākslinieki Krista un Reinis Dzudzilo kopā ar komponistu Kristu Auznieku, un tas apliecina visu iesaistīto un starptautiski atzīto mākslinieku ticību vizuālās mākslas un mūzikas augstvērtīgai saplūšanai.

Iestudējums “Tagadne (Time Present)” veidots četrās ainās, mērojot ceļu no klusuma līdz operas dzimšanai.

Auznieka kvintets “Piano” laikrakstā “The New York Times” savulaik pasludināts par vienu no nedēļas labākajiem klasiskās mūzikas mirkļiem.

Biļetes nopērkamas bilesuparadize.lv.

Estonian National Symphony Orchestra & Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir (Online)

It is the peak of the Estonian Music Days at the Estonia Concert Hall. The Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and soloists under the baton of young conductor Kaspar Mänd will perform a chamber opus by Mariliis Valkonen; an overture-like composition by Kristjan Kõrver; music by Malle Maltis combining symphonic orchestra with electronics; pieces for chamber choir and symphonic orchestra by Evelin Seppar and Alisson Kruusmaa; and contemporary Latvian and Lithuanian music. Although the compositions of the Estonian composers were written for the previous Estonian Music Days, life has made its own adjustments to our plans. Hence, the audience will be able to enjoy them this year, marked by the expansion of the Estonian Music Days into the Baltic Music Days.

Kristjan Kõrver (*1976) – Sic! for symphony orchestra (2020, premiere)

Piano duo Kadri-Ann Sumera & Talvi Hunt

Piano duo Kadri-Ann Sumera & Talvi Hunt

The collaboration between Talvi Hunt and Kadri-Ann Sumera has been brief but very fruitful. Their debut at the ISCM World Music Days in Tallinn in 2019 became an instant favorite of the audience and received rave reviews. The duo of Talvi and Kadri-Ann is enriched by the musicians’ broad horizon – while Talvi is dedicated to performing contemporary music and also specialized in it in Luzern, Kadri-Ann’s repertoire is versatile and includes music from Baroque
to the newest compositions available. Therefore, the ensemble benefits from their strong suits. In addition to music, the pianists are both passionate about demolishing houses and bicycling in the woods.

Alongside Latvian and Lithuanian music, the concert will include the premieres of three new pieces composed especially for the duo. The main title of the festival, “DNA”, provides an additional meaning for the interpretation of ancient runic songs in the composition of Ardo Ran Varres, the archaic kannel sounds in Lauri Jõeleht’s piece, and the intertwined musical passages in Krists Auzniek’s music. To narrow the DNA hints down, Kadri-Ann will also perform a piece by her own gene provider – In Es by his father, Lepo Sumera.

Lepo Sumera (1950–2000) – In Es (1978)

Lauri Jõeleht (*1974) – Stella matutina (Morning Star, 2021, premiere)

Krists Auznieks (*1992, Latvia) – The Ebb Tide (2012)

Ardo Ran Varres (*1974) – Five Pieces on Estonian runic melodies (2021, premiere)

Gintaras Sodeika (*1961, Lithuania) – Sutapo (2010)

Rasmus Puur (*1991) – Écoutez vous (2021, premiere)
